Lady in Red

Oct. 11, 2002

From Faezeh Schive

Dear Mr. Appleton,

Reading your piece in the Iranian times today took me back 22 years and I loved and enjoyed it very much. Yes I do remember the woman in red, but I am not quite sure of why she was dressed in red. I have to ask my mother about that.

Thank you, for your description of Tehran. It makes sound beautiful.

Sincerely,

Faezeh Schive

Hi,

You remember details that many of us have forgotten, but the diversity you describe of the Tehran of that time is so very real that I seem to find them come alive in my own mind.

I also remember the woman clad all in red – I was always fascinated by her and sad for her.

It is a pleasure to read your articles, and I am glad you have such lovely memories. I wonder how much of that mystique is left to enjoy, since Tehran has grown threefold and much has been destroyed to accommodate this increase in population.

Not to mention everything else…

Regards,

Shahla Samii

Hey Brian,

How are you doing?

I really enjoyed your article in Iranian.com

It’s always refreshing to read positive articles from fellow Americans about Iran.

How long in total have you been in Iran?

Regards,

Matthew Fallah

P.S. I personally have seen the “red lady” in Iran.

Our home was and still is in Behesht St., off Bahar Ave. We had a lot of American tenants that used to live in our apartments prior to the hostage taking. They normally worked in the Embassy.

Hi Brian,

You should look for and watch for a pre-revolution documentary called: “Tehran: Yek Khatereh” or “Tehran; A Memory.” At least, that’s what I think the name translates into. In any case, she is shown in the documentary for a few minutes and the producer’s voice ( I think) tells the story of how she has been waiting for her date.

All in all, it is an excellent piece to watch.

Thanks!
